"Sussex Modified Car Club" (SMCC)

The club started in May 2002 and is now one of the largest modified car clubs in the UK. Members come from all over our home county of Sussex, as well as the rest of the UK - and even the USA and Australia! Everyone is welcome to join and take part in the many activities that we organise.

The main aim of the SMCC is to get people of all ages involved in the growing (and legitimate!) community of modified car enthusiasts. Members are not required to have a specific standard of car, or even own a car at all: some of our members don't even drive! All we ask of our members is that they are interested in modified cars. The club is non-profit making and is run by its members, for its members. We aim to provide our members with a professionally-run club, which steps clearly away from the "boy racer" features of so many other car clubs.

Since early 2005, we are proud to have Castrol as our main sponsor and we believe that the partnership has proved of mutual benefit. Castrol wanted to enter the car club scene and we are pleased that they chose the SMCC as the best car club to be affiliated with. Our involvement with this prestigious, multi-national company has had a significant impact on the club's image, ensuring that the SMCC is taken seriously by both the public and the media. Thanks to Castrol, we are now able to set up larger displays for our members at car shows than would have been possible otherwise and we look forward to the partnership growing even bigger and better in the years to come.

Members attend car shows and motor sport days that are held in the UK and the rest of Europe. In April, a group of thirty-five club members and fifteen cars were invited to a car show in Holland. This long-weekend event was extremely successful for all involved and it was interesting to experience a car show in another country. A number of events also took place in France and were attended by SMCC members. These included: Le Mans, Paris Tuning Show and Mangy Cours. In the UK, we were present at all the major car shows: Donny North & South, F&F Brighton, Trax, HIN, Max Power Live and USC. We also went to many of the motor racing days held at Silverstone and Brands Hatch. Further information and pictures of these and other events over the past few years, can be found on our website

In 2005, the SMCC picked up many awards at the various car shows we attended:
Hot Import Nights - Winner of Best Club Display
Fast and Furious Brighton - Winner of Best Car Club
Donny South - 2nd Place for best UK car club (£1500 cash prize!)

In addition to attending car shows, club members also organise social events such as: Track Days, paintballing, rolling road days, cinema trips, 0-60mph sprint days, rally events, go-karting, Xmas meals, comedy club trips and photoshoots. Everyone is welcome to these events - and to lending a hand in the organisation of them! Look out for future events on our forum website.

We are currently on our 3rd generation of website and 2nd generation of forum. Our forum is free to join and our yearly official club membership costs only £10 per annum, with a special offer of a free T-shirt with the SMCC logo.

The club is run by 3 teams. A large group of about 12 members who run the forum, a smaller team of about 5 people, who organise the car shows and events. Finally we have a team of about 3 people who run the website and keep it updated on a weekly basis. Here is a group photo of a load of us from HIN 2005

We also have a 2-man film and camera crew from "Drift Productions" who attend all events with us, takings photos and making short films of all our events.

The SMCC logo has seen a fair few changes since we began a few years ago, but this is our new and permanent logo, designed by Jon@JonParker.co.uk (see main banner)

For any questions about the club then please email SMCC@SussexCarz.com or visit our contacts page on the website.

Thanks

The SMCC team
